On September 29, the finals of 2018 DONGFENG MOTOR · WUHAN OPEN was held in Optics Valley International Tennis Center. In the high-profile women’s singles final, two “post-95s” new stars who were firstly crowded into Premier 5 Tournament competed for the champion which is the most important in their career. Finally, 20-year-old Sabalenka defeated 22-year-old Kontaveit, winning the first champion of Premier 5 Tournament in her career, with USD 503,725 prize and 900 points. In the women’s doubles competition, No. 6 seeds Elise Mertens / Scholes, by virtue of their excellent performance, neatly defeated Czech doubles, No. 2 seeds Hlavackova / Strýcová, winning the championship.
After the singles final at night, mayor of Wuhan City ZHOU Xianwang awarded the champion trophy to Sabalenka the future star from Belarus, and director of Tennis Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China LIU Wenbin and president of WTA Mickey·Lawler respectively presented her mascot and flowers; deputy general manager of DFM YOU Zheng awarded the trophy to the singles runner-up Kontaveit, director general of Hubei Provincial Administration of Sport HU Gongmin, and director of The Administration Committee of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone LIU Ziqing respectively presented her mascot and flowers to her.
